With the Malaysian govt now acknowledging and supporting blockchain and cryptos in Malaysia, there are numerous initiatives and talks starting to ramp up here in the city of Kuala Lumpur.
TECHNOVATION is one of them and looks like 2020 would be a big push for awareness into this space. There is an event happening tomorrow held in Cyberjaya, Malaysia and its featuring Ms Mastura Ishak who has been a strong supporter in the Blockchain space from the very beginning. She is the Program Director of MIGHT ( MALAYSIAN INDUSTRY-GOVERNMENT GROUP FOR HIGH TECHNOLOGY ) who has literally worked behind the scenes of many technology advancement here in Malaysia.
Here is the agenda for Tuesday ‘s event.
If you are here in Kuala Lumpur and would like to attend this talk by blockchain enthusiasts / community drivers and also govt representatives , do sign up.
As I was going through the news today I came across multiple articles that caught my eye. CNN New York had reported that a report issued out by the Bank of America Securities had mentioned that BITCOIN (BTC) was the best investment of the decade.
If you thought about it, if you had invested about $1 in bitcoins at the start of the decade of 2010 and did absolutely nothing … you would literally have about $90,000 worth of BTC at your disposal.
If you looked at other commodities such as gold and silver, it would not have come even close to any of the percentage gains compared to crypto.
I remember buying my ETH at $13 and already considered it expensive, or DASH at $7 without knowing how high it would have gone by the end of 2017. We do wish that we could turn back the clock and bought more BTC, however, this would not be possible unless someone creates a time machine.
So what’s in store for us for this new decade? The 90s was literally the Dot Com era, moving towards 2k where people was focused on web 2.0 and the rise of mobile apps. 2010 onwards was the rise of digital currencies togather with a lot of other great innovations towards Internet of Things.
I think that 2020s would focus a lot on Digital Currencies in terms of stabilization and acceptance. It would also a focus on Machine Learning and also Virtual Reality where perhaps by the end of this decade VR has become so widely used that large virtual cities would actually coexist and the opportunities inside these virtual cities would be a thing by 2030 !
That does sound more like Ready Player One doesn’t it ? Those who were born in the 70s – 80s would have gone thru such rapid changes in technology and we were fortunate to appreciate what it has become today.
I was talking to my kids as to how it was back in the day where we didn’t have handphones. For them .. they just can’t imagine a unconnected world. I wonder how would their world or their kid’s world look like when they grow.
Its a start of a brand new week ! Hope you are having a brilliant one ahead. Cheers
Today is one of those days where I’ve gotta run around all over the place to get passports done for the kids. It’s something which is not a fun thing to do at all however it’s necessary as you know… Without passports… Means no international travelling for any of the kids.
The great thing about processing passports in Malaysia is that they are pretty efficient in getting things done… I won’t be able to compare to other countries as I’ve no idea how the process is like.. But from talking to my friends from around the region.. Its a nightmare.
As long as you have the correct documents you are quickly given a number. Only problem is the wait may take awhile as there just soo many people like what you see above.
Looks like I’m still pretty far away. However I’m kept entertained with reading posts on Steem blockchain and my kids.
Facts about Malaysian passports
We are ranked as one of the top passport in the world.. In 2018 we were no. 5 because we can literally enter into almost all countries except Israel.
Our passports were one of the first to fully implement a chip base e-passport.. That is why you will not see a queue at the Malaysian passport section. We kinda just tap our passport, scan our fingers and off we go. If only other countries are compatible we would not need to wait as passport control for so gawd damn long.
Malaysian passport are embedded with additional security features to make it hard to clone. As in the dark markets a Malaysian passport can fetch a really good price.
Anyway…. Time to start planning for a family trip overseas 😁😁😁.. Cheers all and have a great day… I kinda know where I’m gonna be the whole day.
I’m sure we all love travelling one way or another … some like the luxury travels and some just like the pure simple backpacker style …. and for some .. its a hybrid !
Did you know that Google Maps has released a new Navigation called Live View ?
What it is is actually embedding the arrows as to where you should walk to find your destination. The accuracy is pretty impressive especially when walking in small streets where the cars can’t go in.
I’ve personally tried it and I was looking for a specific shop which in one of those very small tiny alleys in the dense city of Saigon.
To my surprise, it got me to the door steps of exactly the location I was looking for. I wonder how Google would know such things.
I must say that it was a brilliant way to use Augmented Reality and what better way to showcase this by using navigation for it.
How to activate live view … its pretty simple .. load up Google Maps and key in the destination .. then click LIVE VIEW .
If you’ve not tried it out … go ahead and give it a go. See if its as accurate for you. Now .. do remember that the AR does not function too well when its dark .. and always walk safely as you can get pretty much distracted when looking at it.
Well … I’m sitting here at the cafe once more having my coffee and the waiter brings the bill over to me. I paid him with my “fiat” and then I remember the time when I paid someone in Steem for a meal. This was @danielwong’s burger place called Big Hug Burger.
During the times when STEEM was above 1 USD a typical post payout would help a lot in an individual’s financial … hey it does pays the bill.
Anyway …. since 2 years ago there was no actual Steem wallet or mobile app to transfer Steem … it has to all be done manually. So after having burgers at Big Hug Burgers and wanted to pay in STEEM , I had to manually transfer the Steem over.
Instead of Transfering to the account of @danielwong … i accidently sent it to the wrong account named @daniel .
OF course, it had to be an inactive account which is just sitting down there and there is no way get that amount of STEEM back. Even after 2 years since this happen … my 4 STEEM which I sent is still there untouched.
So I googled today those who has actually sent STEEM to the wrong person … as I’m 100% certain that I’m not the only one who has mistakenly done so.
So after googling and searching .. I found this post about an account https://steemitwallet.com/@ashleigh/transfers which had transfered about $250k worth ( value at that time ) of STEEM to the wrong account called @minorityreport
Well … 137k worth of Steem is not as huge of a value now, however its still significant enough to support authors. Here was the post that lead me to this transfer. I think the owners of the account were able to connect and resolve the matter after weeks of powering down.
So Steemfest 4 which was held in Bangkok from the 6th – 10th Nov is just over and here are just a few key takeaways from updates from the conference.
SMART MEDIA TOKEN – SMT
So this was one of the biggest update which everyone has been anticipating. During the conference we got to see the 1st version of Token Creation wizard which makes it really simple to create your own token without coding anything.
The interface and the parameters seems easy enough to use and I would guess by next year we may see a lot of SMT tokens being created. The SMT is now on testnet so that developers would be able to test it out.
It would be interesting to see how SMT is used to start empowering various online publications and also forums as almost anyone is able to implement SMT on their site. Keeping our fingers crossed for the next SMT Hardfork !
HIVEMIND – Steem Communities
One of the anticipated updates from Steem Inc was Hivemind. This feature enables communities where you can now consolidate articles within individual communities.
This means that if you want to build a community that loves Food and only members who are registered Food lovers would be able to post, you can now do that. The individual community would be curated by the mods and what would be interesting is that the owner of that community would be able to receive beneficiaries to support the community better.
We all got a sneak peak from @roadscape as to how the community function works. Currently its on http://beta.steemit.com where you can actively use and test it out. I believe that it would go to the live site very soon.
STEEMIT – Medium Style Editor
When talking to @roadscape , apparently the beta version of Steemit.com has implemented a new blog editor.
The update includes an editor where you do not need to use complicated codes just to bold your words, or use codes to set it as a title, its a widely improved editor making it easier for almost anyone who does not know markdown html to use.
COINGECKO – Use STEEM as part of their Marketing Strategy.
Coingecko shared with us their journey on the Steem Blockchain , where they are now no. 52 on Steem witness. They have mentioned how effective it was to reach out to people all over the world just by using the Steem blockchain.
They have also published an article called the Steem Report 2018. Here is the link to the report.
@aggroed had talked about their crowdfunding campaign and had raised over $230,000 of funding from selling packs. This was indeed one of the most successful crowdfunding dapp to date on the blockchain. Congrats to him and his amazing team.
There would be a lot of updates from @steemmonsters in the following month and looking forward to it.
To sum it all up, Steemfest 4 had a lot of great and amazing speakers and you have to see the videos to actually catch up with all the updates. There were a few new apps which would be launching soon and also updates from existing projects like Steemplus, Steempeaks, 1Ramp, and also WhereIn.
With all these updates, I believe that next year 2020 … Steemfest 5 would be packed with more content then ever before.
Do catch the entire conference talks at Steemfest YouTube Channel.
So far I have 2 previous Steemfest attendee Badges !! Looking forward in collecting my 3 badge this year. Its a personal achievement which I’ve never thought that I would have able to obtain. Why ??????
Well … Steemfest 2 was in Lisbon and for someone who has NOT travel to that part of the world before, I took it as an experience which I would always remember. And indeed, until today I still remember the highlights of that event.
For Steemfest 3 !! Well … its something which I just had to do all over again … just buy the tickets and travel without hesitation. Again the experience was different however the trip was just as exciting !
How Steemfest 4 !!! Well .. its closer to home and its like a no brainer that we should just go … all those who are staying closeby should just take the opportunity to experince Steemfest ! You will not regret it.
As I take a look at http://steemitboard.com and look at all my stats , I’m pretty much amazed that I’ve done SOOooooo many posts over the past 2 years on the Steem Blockchain.
I also then realized that there is a MEETUPS badge award ! Now this is something which I would surely talk to @arcange about and start making it for those meetups in Malaysia
So have you taken a look at your Steemitboard lately ? If not, just go browse thru it and you will then realized on how addicted you are to the Steem Blockchain … SteemitBoard has been an amazing tool to recognize and award badges to Steemians even though it may not have direct impact to how much the post earns, it sure does brightens up someone’s day by hitting a small achievement without even knowing it.
So do checkout your stats and for those going to Steemfest 4 ! Lookout for the new badge which should be coming by next week !!
Now, one of good things about Malaysia is that you are still able to get really cheap dental care however the only challenge is that everyone wants it therefore the wait time is a bit longer.
One Govt Dental Clinics nearby my place is Klinik Kelana Jaya which I visited just recently. After a quick registration of RM1 ( $0.25 ) you then need to wait for your turn to see the dentist .
Now … Mondays – Thursdays are for Adults and Fridays are special for kids to go and do their checkups.
The nurses and registration was pretty fast as we were there very early like 7:30 in the morning. Even at that time, there were a few people already waiting to visit the dentists.
SO ! The wait !
It took about 1hour 30 minutes to get to our turn. Even though there were about 3 dentists in 3 different rooms it still took awhile to get to us. And we were number 10 in line.
Finally we managed to get in and the dentists was really nice and friendly. They were stressed out with sooo many patients but they still manage to keep a smile and talk calmly.
Looks like their day was going to be a long one and we were done within 20 mins with the dentist.
Ok .. thats my total cost for going to this dentist. a total of RM2 !! Thats about $0.50 … however the only set back was the time it took which was a total of about 2 hours which is mostly just waiting and waiting.
So if you are planning to go and get your dentals done however have a really tight budget , I do suggest checking out the govt dental clinics… their equipment may be slightly more dated however they can get the job done just as well.
Got invited to an interesting event today where Emanate representation @djlethalskillz presented. Its a very interesting project as its like Spotify however its powered by the EOS blockchain.
In DJ Lethal Skillz explaination, there is a smart contract which rewards the author of the music every six seconds of play time. So as you stream the music, the author / singer / songwriter gets paid every 6 seconds. Unlike Spotify .. where the artist gets paid at the end of the song.
From the dashboard, you are able to see how much this song has actually got paid to the artist
You can see that DJ Lethal Skillz already got paid a total of $4.81 for the song Ocean Ride. This would just continue to accumulate and the value of that is being paid in EMX token which is like the Stable coins of Emanate.
You are also able to stake Emanate by buying EMT tokens thru the EOS markets like NewDex . What you get a lil bonus from a growth pool.
So this is one of the more interesting projects on the blockchain which I’ve seen and it has great potential. When asked how is Copywrite protected for musicians, it seems that every genre has its own curators and when new artists signs up, they are manually checked and verified before being able to upload their music.
DJ Lethalskillz is one of the curators for HipHop and he would be one of the many curators out there.
Do check out this site, as I do think its pretty cool … give back artists what they deserved and not be cheated and scammed by production houses.
