So these guys are in Kuala Lumpur and you can meet up with them if you are around town. It would be great to meet up with them to understand more, as I do have some questions on this project which I’m really interested to understand it better.
Going to SteemFest seems to be like an annual trip which must be made year on year for me. Ever since experiencing the fun at SteemFest 2 at Lisbon, it keeps me wanting to go back … not only to listen to the amazing speakers .. but the connection with so many other steemians out there !
At Steemfest 2 , there were only 4 people from Malaysia that went to Lisbon ….. for some of us, it was our first time travelling in flights for about 19 hours including stopovers
Now for a Malaysian to head to Europe is indeed one of the most expensive places for us, as 1 EURO is about 4.67 Ringgit Malaysia. So it does takes months to save up for a 7 days trip to Lisbon as the average salary in Malaysia is only about RM3,500 per month.
But having reached to SteemFest 2 after the long journey there made the trip all worth it as, unlike a business conference which you typically attend … this was more like a gathering of friends from all over the world who has never met each other but knows each other.
It was indeed memorable and when SteemFest 3 was announced, me and a few fellow Malaysians started planning to go , this time it was Krakow, Poland !
Every trip I go , the experience is different. The people we meet are different as well …. there are of course a few familiar faces which is always great to meetup once more. However when you see a lot more new faces, you then realized that the community keeps on striving and growing larger and larger. Even with a heavy bearish market on crypto you still see the community of the Steem
Why Keep Going To SteemFest ?
It’s pretty obvious …. having done 19 – 20 hours of travel over the past 2 years just to head to STEEMFEST and this year its going to happen in just our neighboring country Thailand … it would be crazy not to go!
I’m sure that a lot of other guys from TeamMalaysia are already planning to head over there.
Like any other year, I do not have many expectations from SteemFest as I do know @roelandp will make it a memorable SteemFest experience for anyone who attends.
This year has been an amazing journey as even though I didn’t manage to organize as many Steem events as I would have loved to have done, however, I had the opportunity to speak at blockchain events to share about the Steem Blockchain.
More and more events …
This was only possible as there is such a strong blockchain community in Malaysia … and yes we have an amazing bunch of Steemians here as well which I’m forever grateful as even though the price of Steem is on its all time low, they are still extremely actively creating content.
I do hope that everyone gets to go to SteemFest at least once as it would truly be an experience to have. And hopefully this year by the time we head over to Steemfest … Smart Media Tokens would have actually be implemented.
We would then see a lot of amazing new projects coming out as we already see it done within Steem Engine.
Looking forward in seeing everyone once again !
This post is in relation to @anomadsoul + @blocktrades writing task to help fund a lil bit of your steemfest thanks to HF21. Do create a post to ease of your costs on heading to SteemFest Bangkok !
Finally found the time to sit down and upgrade my witness node to 0.21 which means its ready for HardFork 21 !
Looking forward for it to happen within the next 4 days and by the looks of things most witnesses has already upgraded their nodes. Here is the list of top 25 steem witnesses.
Change is Happening in HardFork 21
Yes there would be numerous changes on the next HardFork which has been discussed by many people and the one which would impact us as the residence of this blockchain would be the reward mechanism.
Some will get more, some will get less however the important thing is that the focus would now be on curation where the rewards are way much greater then before.
We would all be using our stakes to curate content and like any other HardFork , you may expect some people who would try to abuse the system, there would also be a lot of downvoting as the new HF do encourage to actually curate content by upvoting and also downvoting content which you deem undesirable.
For more insights of these changes checkout @steemitblog ‘s latest post here
If you have not updated your Witness Vote for over 1 year, I do suggest that you go thru https://steemit.com/~witnesses and start taking a look at your Witness votes.
Some of you may still have votes on witnesses which are no longer operating their node. Or some of you may not be fully utilizing your witness votes. you can vote up to 30 witnesses and this does not effect your Voting Power / Mana in any way. It’s just telling the blockchain as to who you are empowering to be a witness
For example, @utopian-io still have about 7,684 votes on their witness and they have stop their nodes many months ago. Are you one of them ? To check which witness is still running and have updated to HF 21 head over to this link
Yea yea , I know we all love STEEM and all the amazing DAPPs out there. From playing games, to posting investment views or even posting our daily sports .. there is just so much we can now do on steem.
However, amazing the scene is now on STEEM, we at TeamMalaysia stills keeps our Facebook Page. Yeap we have a Facebook page if you don’t already know. We have grown to over 1k of known users here and we would like to invite you to participate in our FB page.
The page is highly moderated and just as much as you don’t like to have people coming to your house and just sticking posters everywhere, we only welcome genuine non promoting/shilling posts. We have had that many times and we had to remove users from the group.
This is not a group where you can just drop post your steem blog like most other pages…. we do encourage different engagement and more conversation.
We do invite you to participate in our discussions on this page itself and you will also be informed of meetups organized by anyone in the community.
And yes anyone can join in, however, bear in mind that a lot of the conversation would be very localized. So …. yea .. you’ve been informed.
We would start running some live sessions here to literally get more people to join in our group especially if they are just getting into steem . It would also be for those who has not been updated with what is happening in the STEEM ecosystem.
This would be a good way to both promote and / or get started on the steem blockchain.
We do know that a lot of Malaysians has heard of STEEM however has never participated in knowing more in depth, this would be one way to get more steemians involved … new or old.
So do click the link and join us in our conversations.
Its already July 2019 and half the year has already passed. Its so far been an amazing year for the blockchain community especially here in Malaysia. With the Malaysian Govt endorsing that there is a need for regulations required for this space by providing conditional license for 3 crypto-fiat exchanges its seems like its going to be a bright future.
As witness no. 92 at the moment of this writing, I would just like to give a brief summary on what has happened over the past 6 months in terms of awareness and adoption of the STEEM community and a highlight to what I’ve been doing to promote STEEM. Even though I’m not a full time coder, however, I’m full time in growing the awareness of this amazing blockchain which we all have come to love.
After much success in running multiple events in East, North and Central Malaysia, the community seems to be vibrant and rapidly gaining awareness about how they can use STEEM on the daily basis. Most of these events are targeted towards a diversity of audience from different background. So meaning that it has to be as simple as possible to understand and get started.
Appart from running our own events, I was also honoured to be able to speak at several events which we more focused on the blockchain community.
Having done the most recent ones in June 2019 was Malaysian Blockchain Week where I was asked to share about the STEEM blockchain in the Blockchain Tracks which had audiences from all over asia.
And also another STEEM sharing session which was done to a small group of individuals who were content creators (photo bottom)
The drive and aim this year was of course to explore and to show those in the blockchain space that STEEM is not just another blockchain to shill and compete with others however its a blockchain where communities are able to come together to share content and could also be used as a alternative way to get rewarded for their artistry.
Irregardless of the age group, I am always ready and available to talk about STEEM to a crowd if provided the opportunity. These students below are from a rural part of Sarawak where they have absolutely no idea what blockchain is however they know what social media is , so sharing about STEEM and its DAPPs made it relevant to them.
I must say that there is absolutely NO way I could have traveled all around Malaysia and do these talks without the help of the community and its unending support. Some people I would love to mention who has always supported me and my drive to push for growing the community here in Malaysia are amazing individuals like @kevinwong, @davidke20, @elizacheng, @littlenewthings, @danieldoughty, @veenang, @bboyady, @wilsonkoh, @joannewong, @aaronleang @littlenewthings, @zord189, @coingecko, @awesomianist, @dongkeypong, @tombstone, @bitcoinmalaysia, @currykhoo, @patriciawpy, @ninjaboon, @hightouch, @starkerz, @anarcotech, @project7, @thecryptodrive, @anomadsoul and so many other steemians out there which just can’t fit in one single post.
Also a great big fat thanks to some of these amazing projects which runs off the blockchain who just makes an enormous impact to the STEEM blockchain which is worth mentioning thruout any of my presentation. @fundition , @dtube, @oracle-d, @curie, @partiko, @steempress, @tasteem, @steemhunt and many many other projects.
I’ve always have new stuff to talk about when it comes to STEEM, and now with @aggroed and his team who has launched SCOT and the Nitros interface, its going to be a lot of new and upcoming projects showcasing the communities and the potential of STEEM.
WHATS NEXT ?
Moving forward in the next 6 months, I’m looking at more collaborative efforts to be able to gain more awareness about STEEM. These are some of the stuff which I have already begun discussion :-
Organizing partner events at several selected locations with one of the approved crypto – fiat exchange in Malaysia
Continue discussions with a national TV station to host a blockchain based segment to showcase not only STEEM but credible blockchain projects within the community.
Continue talks on getting advertising space on one of the largest wifi providers in Malaysia with more then 16,000 wifi hotspots.
Attending and engaging with more communities both blockchain and others.
So there you go , this is my witness update and I do hope that you would be able to support my witness with a witness vote here.
For those who have voted .. thank you thank you thank you ! Will continuously update the community on all events that is happening and will try to push for more collaboration to gain awareness of the STEEM blockchain in Malaysia.
So its just 1 more day before another STEEM sharing session. That would be my closure for the month of June. This month has been a very busy month with many different events and met a bunch of really amazing individuals in the blockchain space.
Kuala Lumpur has been gaining a lot of focus of expansion for crypto projects after the announcement of 3 conditional licensed Crypro Exchanges by the security commissions of Malaysia.
This is why, its one of the best place to start talking and getting more awareness about STEEM within the community here. Projects will now realize that STEEM is not only about blogging however, its driven by content and its not to be seen as a competitor to other blockchains as it is easily able to co-exist with other projects as a form of content distribution. Exactly like how reddit or even FB is used.
So in the upcoming event tomorrow, I would be sharing about STEEM to a community which is NOT from the blockchain space and I’ve tweeked my slides to make it easier for it to be more relatable to the audience. Hopefully it works.
More information about this event can be taken from the link below.
Its going to be an awesome day tomorrow and I look forward in meeting more people.
Thanks to @fundition in supporting my drive to continuously share about the STEEM blockchain and all its amazing projects out there. If you would like to read about my fundition project more click this link
Its finally here, Malaysian Blockchain Week with a series of events happening thru-out the city leading towards the event on the 20th June tomorrow where there would be conferences and speakers from all over the place in 1 location.
This was one of the event which I attended at WORQ in GLO Damanasara.
Was there to mainly support my buddy from SINEGY where they are one of three exchanges regulated in Malaysia. Had a lot of feedback from him regarding how they are going to expand rapidly in Malaysia.
He was on the Panel with a lot of questions from the audience which was a very mix crowd.
All events won’t be complete without a good tehtarik session where more discussions continued. Left to right ( Colbert – Bitcoin Malaysia , Jack – he seriously look like Justin Sun , Leslie from Intersteller.org and myself )
This is just the start and many more people to meet this week. Have a great week and if you are in Kuala Lumpur and would like to join in some of these events, here is the spreadsheet links.
STEEM BUSINESS ALLIANCE ( @steemba ) has been entered as a community partner for Malaysian Blockchain Week and I would hope to make a difference and grab as much awareness for STEEM during these events.
Time to get cracking on my presentation, these are opportunities where STEEM can gain traction therefore it has to be as perfect as it can be.
So it looks like numerous exchanges are starting to close its door in Malaysia and it does not really matter if they are new or old. What matters is that it has to comply with the current guidelines set by Security Commissions.
On their website, they have claimed that this is due to their bank accounts which were forced close by the national bank (Bank Negara Malaysia). This means that if you had some deposits with XBit, I do suggest that you move all your assets out immediately.
I did use XBit long time ago, however I do not use it anymore as i don’t really require it at this point of time. With Security Commissions coming down on every single crypto exchanges in Malaysia , its pretty exciting to see who will soar thru this period and be able to comply with the regulations which would be imposed on all crypto exchanges.
The ones which I do know are still in the running to be a “regulated” crypto exchange in Malaysia would be :
Luno has been around since 2013 the earlier days of crypto and was one of the early platforms where you are able to buy BTC with your MYR ( Ringgit Malaysia )
The other is SINEGY an exchange which had a lot of focus on the OTC Markets ( Over the Counter ) and had recently launched their exchange prior to the Malaysian Govt announcing new regulations to exchanges.
If you are in Penang tomorrow and would like to listen to both myself and SINEGY talk about what’s happening in the blockchain scene in Malaysia, do signup for our event tomorrow 25th May 2019.
We do look forward for your participation, its free and we welcome everyone. If you are unable to attend but would like your friends or family to understand more about blockchain & crypto do get them to signup and attend.
We got the poster updated and our event in Penang is good to go . Speaking together with me during the event is Jason Chew Managing Partner for Bitcoin Malaysia. We have done numerous events together and they are on steemit as well. @bitcoinmalaysia
They also manage one of Malaysia’s largest blockchain groups on Facebook which has over 52k of members ! Here is the link to the group if you want to join in. If you intend to come in and spam your affiliate links … you will be banned and kicked out almost immediately. You’ve been warned !
Its a great community to make friends within the blockchain space in Malaysia and if you are around Malaysia and would like to get updated on events happening in this crypto/blockchain space, I would recommend you join in the group as well. Just remember, no spamming !
Also sharing the stage would be SINEGY which is one of the crypto exchanges in Malaysia. There are only a handful of crypto exchanges which are in the midst of evaluation by SEC to be provided a license. Before SEC came out with the regulations in Feb 2019, there were about 50 exchanges which were named however only a handful were able to submit and comply to the regulations.
All exchanges are not “officially” legal yet however those who wants operate would require to submit a long and complex documentation to SEC and also come up with like RM5million paid up capital
So if you are around Penang on the 25th May 2019 do signup and join us in our event ! We would love to meet up with you ! Below is the signup link.
